Just a year after joining Barcelona, Ilkay Gundogan appears ready to leave the club, with the midfielder reportedly reaching an agreement with Barca to leave.
This follows a meeting between Gundogan and Hansi Flick, in which the German was told he would not be able to become a regular in the team, despite Barcelona’s struggles in midfield.
This has led to Gundogan’s decision to leave Barcelona, while those around him have begun accusing the club of forcing the midfielder’s imminent departure.
Premier League clubs interested
Nevertheless, attention will now turn to Gundogan’s future as the Barcelona star prepares to embark on a new adventure.
However, according to The Athletic, Gundogan could end up returning to the comfort of his home country of England with his former club Manchester City interested in re-signing him this summer.

The Germany international has no shortage of suitors, with clubs from Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia all set to make a move for him this summer.
However, Gundogan may be considering a possible return to England, with the midfielder having spent the majority of his career at Manchester City and playing a key role in the Sky Blues’ rise to dominance in English football.
Gundogan captained Manchester City in his final season and led the team to the treble.
Manager Pep Guardiola was vocal about his disappointment at losing Gundogan last summer, which has led to interest from Barcelona in re-signing the 33-year-old.
Indeed, Fabrizio Romano reports that the Premier League champions have also contacted Gundogan’s entourage about a possible return.
Various other Premier League clubs have also expressed an interest in signing the Barca midfielder this summer, so it will be interesting to see how things go.
