Sky’s Kay Burley speaks with shadow education secretary Damian Hinds and discusses Boris Johnson, the Tory leadership race, James Cleverly’s football freebie row and private school tax.
Mr Hinds has urged the government to “pause” their “crazy, headlong rush” to scrap the VAT exemption on private school fees by January.
He says: “The next thing they should do is publish their analysis.”

They are going to my school lmao ๐ญ
Scrap all VAT now we left the EU
would be like a decent pay rise for everyone
Private schools turn out better results, should they not be encouragedโฆ
As soon as he though that Boris was a great leader then it became self evident that every word he was going to say would be a lie.
We must still keep our class system OH DEAR ๐ข
Completely โfreeโ education is what holds this country back.
Charge parents at state schools modest fees. That would bring billions into the system. Why should families who can afford it not pay something?
Sky News seem to specialise in irritating, arrogant interviewers.
Not thought out at all putting even more pressure on the underfunded state education system, before the keyboard warriors move in i went to a school exactly like the one in the KES film, a bit further north so different accents, nothing this Government has done has been thought out nor is there a Labour Party, it died thirty years ago this is a reactionary ideology and very corrupt.
Labour needs to disappear .
VAT was introduced because we entered the EU and it had a joining fee We have left the EU so all tax collected under the guise of VAT is theft as we never had a vote for this new and unsolicited use as this was not what we voted for . This puts a disproportionate tax burden on low income families so its great for the well off and not good for those on the bottom of society.
Oh dear. The bitterness and jealousy of those whose parents have paid for their education is unbelievable.
Typical Labour supporters.
It is all about dragging things down to their standards.
Never about raising their own.
More acado toast please ,Jeeves. I am having to educate the proletariats.
Parents could have a refund for the cost of state schooling that is not used. Would probably cover the vat.
I don't see any problem with this policy.
Iโm sure they care what he has to say
REMOVE CHARITY STATUS FROM PRIVATE SCHOOLS
Starmer canโt hold a candle to Boris Johnson because he isnโt in the same league as
Perhaps cancelling the Sky subscription would balance the books after all our last PM's family did without and look how good their lad did.
What is wrong with a member of parliament wearing a top that has a factual statement on it, Hamas are a terrorist organisation, good on him for pointing that out because some parts of parliament and the media seem to have forgotten this
Auto Destructive Syndrome Parliament
Guy seems like such a weasel backing Johnson and canโt make a comment on pictures
Two Tier Kier removed this privilege and the egalitarian Torytots want it backโฆโฆ
Deluded tories! Cut down on avocados and costa coffee to afford the private school fees
Labour donโt think, never mind rethink!
Get in the bin burley
So basically Tory Donors, rich Tory voting pensioners, people who can afford private education should all have money thrown at them and not be told to pay more but workers, working productive people and younger people in general should see their lives get worse to pay for people who vote Tory. And the Tories wonder why the average age of a Tory voter is 65+. Because Tories HATE younger and working people. They love pensioners and the rich.
Deluded Tories
Yeah they should remove the charitable status of private schools theyโre a business not a charity
Itโs a tax loophole that only the rich can take advantage ofโฆ. Get rid of that, and increase capital gains tax to match income tax levels. That way people like Rishi Sunak wonโt pay a smaller percentage of tax on their earnings than a nurse. <โ- that isnโt a joke
Maybe the parents should cut down on the avocado toast and sell their flat screen tvs if they canโt afford little fontleroys school feesโฆ
Opposition spokesperson thinks Government plan is bad. That's never happened before…
