Roadmap for sailing events at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Featured Athletes
Martine Grael and Cahena Kunze (Brazil): They have won gold medals at the last two Olympic Games in the women’s skiff skiff, known as 49erFX.
Stuart McNay (USA): The 42-year-old McNay has competed in the last four Olympic Games and in Marseille will race with Lara Dallman-Weiss in a mixed dinghy, known as a 470. They will face stiff competition from Spain’s Jordi Chamar and Nora Brugman, both former US representatives.
Daniella Moroz, USA: The San Francisco native is a six-time kitesurfing world champion.
Luuk van Opzeeland (Netherlands): The 25-year-old Dutchman is the current men’s windsurfing (iQFOiL) world champion.
Future story
New to the Olympics are kitesurfing, a men’s and women’s sport that sees athletes compete on the open ocean at the fastest speed of any Olympic sport, and iQFOiL windsurfing. Other events include men’s and women’s dinghy, kite and skiff races, plus two mixed dinghy and multihull races.
The once-dominant U.S. Olympic sailing team has struggled since the 2012 Olympics, but veterans like Stuart McNay (mixed 470) and six-time world champion Daniella Moroz (kitesurfing) are looking to bounce back.
Key Dates
The race will start in Marseille on July 28th, with the final day on August 8th.
