Oscar-winning actor and staunch supporter of Donald Trump, Jon Voight, claims he’s getting closer to daughter Angelina Jolie, but with one condition: the United Nations.
In a new interview with Variety, Voight said he and Jolie have reconciled after a long estrangement, but acknowledged he still has issues with her political beliefs, particularly her open opposition to Israel’s continued attacks on Gaza and support for the Palestinians.
“She has been subjected to propaganda,” he said. “She has been influenced by anti-Semites. Angie has ties to the UN and enjoys speaking out for refugees, but these people are not refugees.”
Jolie began working for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in 2001 and was appointed special envoy in 2012. She left the position in 2022 because she “wanted to do something different” by working directly with refugees and local organisations.
When Jolie issued a statement last November calling Israel’s invasion of Gaza “the deliberate bombing of a trapped population with no way to escape,” people listened.
So did her father. “I am so disappointed that my daughter, like so many others, does not understand God’s honor and His truth. This is justice for God’s children in the Holy Land,” Voight said in an Instagram video posted earlier this year.
“Angie, I don’t think she got this information because in Hollywood they don’t share this kind of stuff,” the actor told Variety, according to the article. “They’re completely out of touch. They have no idea what’s going on. It’s a bubble.”
At a separate meeting, Voight insisted to a Variety reporter that he had no intention of fighting her: “But the fact is, I think she’s been influenced by the UN. The human rights violations have been horrible from the beginning. They call it human rights, but it’s just anti-Israel attacks.”
Still, Voight stressed that he loves his daughter dearly: “When she’s having a hard time, I’m having a hard time. When she’s feeling down, I’m feeling down.”
