JoJo Siwa finds small victories wherever she goes. In a new TikTok posted on Thursday, the 21-year-old aspiring pop star celebrated beating out top artists like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande in the not-so-victory category of most dislikes for a female artist’s music video this year.
In the video, Siwa, clad in her signature flamboyant outfit including a sparkly construction vest, energetically recites a list of the least-loved visuals of female stars in 2024. Her numbers are backed up by online dislike viewers, who found that Grande garnered 290,000 dislikes for her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Yes, And?”, while Katy Perry landed at No. 2 with 330,000 dislikes for her new single “Woman’s World.” (The Dr. Luke-produced track has skyrocketed to an estimated 550,318 dislikes as of press time.)
The former Dance Moms member spoke out, announcing that Swift’s “Fortnite” has garnered 350,000 dislikes since hitting No. 1 on the Hot 100 in May. And…
“And the No. 1 overall winner is…” Siwa says to the camera, practically screaming as she prolongs the fake suspense: “Karma, JoJo Siwa. With an AMAZING, RECORD-BREAKING 3.1 MILLION DISRUPTIONS!”
“I’m the only person who can say I beat Taylor Swift on any list,” she says, then closes her laptop and shrugs. “That’s fine.”
“A day to celebrate. Karma broke the record. 900% better than second place. A win is a win,” Siwa captioned the video.
The So You Think You Can Dance coach’s choice to find a silver lining comes about three months after she released her controversial single “Karma,” which has since spawned countless memes and even appeared in a Saturday Night Live sketch. The song appears on her new EP, Guilty Pleasure, which was released on July 12.
“I guess I just want to be more clear that gay pop is a genre,” she told TMZ in April about her new musical era. “I didn’t invent gay pop, obviously. But I want to help make it even bigger than it is now. I want it to get more attention.”
