Jenna Ortega was “disgusted” by the explicit direct messages she received on her ex’s Twitter account.
Jenna Ortega spoke out about the terrifying experience that led the young actress to delete her X (formerly Twitter) account.
In an interview with The New York Times ahead of the premiere of “Beetlejuice” and the second season of “Wednesday” on Netflix, Ortega, 21, revealed that he deleted his social media accounts after receiving direct messages of AI-generated pornographic images as a child.
The Disney star spoke about her upcoming project, Taika Waititi’s film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel “Klara and the Sun,” in which she plays the robot of the same name, and described her experience with artificial intelligence as “terrifying.”
“I hate AI,” the Scream actress declared, “I mean, AI could be used for incredible things… let’s just leave it at that.”
“Did I, at 14, create a Twitter account because I had to, and enjoy looking at salacious edited content of myself as a child? No,” she said. “It’s horrifying. It’s corrupting. It’s wrong.”
“It was disgusting, it made me feel bad, it made me uncomfortable,” Ortega added, recalling the first explicit DMs she received when she was 12. “Anyway, I couldn’t say anything without seeing them, so I deleted them.”
“Then I woke up one day and I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t need this anymore,’ so I quit,” said the actress, who was recently featured on Sabrina Carpenter’s new song, “Taste,” off her sixth studio album, Short & Sweet.
Ortega said he deleted his Twitter account, X, a couple of years ago.
