Jenna Ortega revealed that she deleted her Twitter account after receiving unwanted explicit images and AI-generated content featuring her for years.
The actress, known for her role in the film “Wednesday,” spoke about her troubling experience on social media in a recent interview, where she recalled how as a child she was encouraged to join online platforms to “boost her image” but was inundated with unpleasant content.
In an interview with The New York Times, the 21-year-old actress expressed concern about the rise of AI technology that creates fake images, and recounted her own disturbing experiences: “Was I 14 and I made a Twitter account because I had to, and I loved looking at lewd edited content of myself as a kid?” Ortega recalled.
“No. It’s horrible. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong.”
Jenna Ortega recalled that the first direct message she received on Twitter was an unsolicited explicit photo when she was 12 years old, and that was just the beginning of the disturbing content she would encounter.
As her profile skyrocketed after Wednesday premiered in 2022, the influx of pornographic images escalated, eventually leading her to delete her Twitter account. “I was already in a state of confusion with all these ridiculous images and photos that were coming in after the show aired, so I deleted it,” she explained.
Ortega, who has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars, will star in the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel. Her other work includes X, Miller’s Girl and the Scream reboot. Ortega recently said she regrets past comments about Wednesday’s script changes, acknowledging she could have expressed her criticism more thoughtfully. This week, she made a cameo in Sabrina Carpenter’s music video, where she recreates scenes from films like “Death Becomes Her” and “Ginger Snaps.”
