Country music star Tim McGraw, who was scheduled to close the three-day Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience, has canceled due to an injury he recently suffered while on tour.
According to a JAS news release, Dierks Bentley will replace McGraw and close the festival on Sunday, Sept. 1. Bentley, 48, has been a contemporary country music heavyweight since 2003. He has released 10 studio albums, been nominated for 14 Grammy Awards and won three Country Music Association Awards.
“After a long and physically demanding summer tour and after careful consultation with his physician, Tim McGraw will undergo necessary orthopedic surgery this month on both knees due to injuries sustained while on tour,” a news release from McGraw’s team said.
“Unfortunately, this will mean he will not be able to perform the remainder of the year, including at the JAS Labor Day Experience on September 1,” the release continues. “Tim does not want to disappoint his fans, but he plans to undergo rest and physical therapy so he can bring you great concerts for many years to come.”
JAS President and CEO Jim Horowitz said in the organization’s announcement that the upcoming festival will “go ahead without a hitch.”
“We feel incredibly fortunate to have Dirks step in as a last-minute replacement for Tim McGraw the night before a sold-out show at Red Rocks,” Horowitz said. “Dirks’ high-energy performance will make for a fantastic closing-night show.”
According to Forbes, Bentley “is one of country music’s most coveted brands, equal parts approachable and authentic,” and according to The New York Times, his music is reaching new creative heights “while making music that’s meant to challenge.”
Bentley’s hit singles include “Every Mile a Memory,” “Long Trip Alone,” “Home,” “I Hold On” and “Drunk on a Plane.” His latest album is “Gravel and Gold,” which was released in early 2023.
There are only a few general admission tickets left for the JAS Labor Day Experience concert on Sunday, September 1, which also features The Black Crowes and The War and Treaty. The festival will also feature Brandi Carlile and Lukas Nelson on Friday, August 30, and Sting, OneRepublic, and Michael Marcagi on Saturday, August 31.
JAS has sent an email to all general admission ticket holders for Sept. 1 with information about cancellations and ticket purchasing options. For more information, visit jazzaspensnowmass.org.
