summary
AT&T has confirmed that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold won’t be available on its network. The carrier will continue to offer the rest of the Pixel 9 family, as well as the Pixel Watch 3. If you’re planning on buying a Pro Fold and using it with AT&T, your best bet is to get it unlocked.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a big improvement over the original Pixel Fold with a number of upgrades, including a larger display, a sleeker design, and a much better aspect ratio. There are plenty of reasons to consider this device, but if you’re planning on buying it directly from AT&T, you’re out of luck.
AT&T confirmed to CNET that the Fold Pro won’t be available on its network, but the carrier will continue to carry the rest of the Pixel 9 series, as well as the Pixel Watch 3. AT&T didn’t say why it wasn’t selling the foldable phone, but the move is a bit surprising considering the carrier previously offered the Pixel Fold. It’s also worth noting that the carrier offers the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Pro Fold’s biggest rival.
It’s also unclear if AT&T will officially certify the unlocked Pixel 9 Pro Fold on their network, but we’ve reached out to AT&T for further comment. Hopefully, we’ll learn a bit more about why the new foldable smartphone isn’t on their network and we’ll update accordingly. There could be a number of reasons for this, ranging from internal contracts with other partners like Samsung to simply a lack of sales of the original Pixel Fold. Of course, this is just our speculation for now.
It’s interesting that AT&T is the only one of the big three to drop the phone. Even though AT&T doesn’t officially support the device, there’s little to stop AT&T customers from activating their existing SIM cards. If you want a Fold Pro and plan to use it on AT&T’s network, we recommend buying the unlocked version directly from Google.
