Without you realizing it, X (formerly Twitter) has quietly started sending all of your posts, replies, and more to its AI-generated chatbot, Grok. This new setting appears to be enabled by default for all accounts, so even if you never actively chose to let Grok siphon your data, it’s being harvested without your explicit permission.
If you enable the setting in your account, the social media platform “may use your user interactions, inputs, and results with X’s posts and Grok for training and fine-tuning purposes,” and X further explains that “user interactions, inputs, and results may also be shared with our service provider, xAI, for these purposes.”
The good news is that you can disable this feature with a single click, and you can also easily delete your Grok conversation history from the same settings menu. To stop Grok training on the desktop version of X, you need to follow these steps:
Make sure you’re logged into X in your browser and visit the settings page. Go to the “Privacy and safety” menu. Scroll down and click “Grok” under “Data sharing and personalization.” Uncheck the box to disable data sharing with Grok. You can also click “Delete conversation history” while you’re here.
Unfortunately, that menu isn’t accessible from the X mobile app — there’s no “Grok” option in the app’s settings menu, though that may be added in the future — so you’ll need to load X/Twitter in your desktop computer’s browser to disable the setting.

The X Help Center explains that “Making your account private will prevent your posts from being used to train Grok’s underlying models or generate responses to user inquiries.” To make your account private, follow these steps:
Again, go to X.com and visit your settings page. Go to the “Privacy and safety” menu. Select “Audience, media, and tagging.” Check the box next to “Protect my posts.”
I’m glad that at least X has given us the ability to avoid training the AI chatbot.
