Data and artificial intelligence (AI) software is being increasingly used to track down criminals.
One facial recognition company, Clear View AI, used AI to track down a child abuser in the US.
But campaigners have raised concerns about its use as “digital police line-up” as UK police roll out live facial recognition operations.

That was rude ignoring your co host smh
There are no safeguards. It's data software. Once a camera is bought it can be upgraded or reversed.??
Did I just watch a video where students coded their glasses to have facial recognition, and one or two examples was walking up to people and feigning having met them prior or knowledge of them from an actual encounter.
you do have freedom to wander without being watched – unless you have done something you shouldn't have!
They always use CP as an excuse to further encroach on our privacy. This case of CP is a very very low percentage vs the rest of the population. If we are going to go down this road, why not just have a camera by law in every house to watch people, watch those who might commit these crimes or plan crimes or carry out domestic V? All valid excuses right? The issue with this, is the missuse. Here we are criticizing China for this tech and what do we do? We do the exact same thing for our reasons . Bye bye privacy
This technology is unbelievable to be honest and if we lived in the perfect world then it would be unreal for everyone. However we live in a world full of corruption and greed. What happens when a dictator decides to use this technology to keep even tighter restrictions on its people? What if western governments use it to enforce new laws they decide upon to restrict people's freedoms? It will be impossible to fight against a tyrannical regime.
Wait until the BBC TV licensing team start using it to chase you.
The usurious bankers are silly printing money not backed by sweat labor or product resulting in the devaluing the hard earned pounds in our pockets
Men are being sent to jail in the UK while male prisoners are only being sent to jail to do 40% of their sentences and females are being considered for other than prison sentences. So no prisons for females. A modernity of single mothers and landless fathers.
What does the image mean? Is it anti-misogyny?
Look at the image of the lady in the drawing behind the Hoan Ton That? A naked lakef shooting out of a flower.

Yes lets talk about Orwellian surveillance like it's not the most bait thing to happen in the modern age
sounds like the start of a black mirror episode
Pria donโt you think itโs better things to do in life.
Are you bored?
Go home cook some dinner to your husband and your kids and youโll be alright.
Unfortunately, there's nothing anyone can do about it."
We've had our photos taken everywhere since the advent of security cameras, social media, and mobile technologies. Facial recognition is designed to ensure that the population complies with law and order. The near future will be vastly different from what we consider as enforcement and compliance today.
Those who save us will eventually enslave us all to a system that governments have been planning for many years. I understand that bad people need to be detected and defeated, but it won't stop at that. In time, money won't exist; your income will be based on a points system monitored by cameras everywhereโso small you can't spot them. People will be rewarded via a points system for good behavior within the next 15 years. AI will police the streets in driverless cars.
Half the world's population will be gone due to coming wars and more viruses, created due to population proportions being so thinly sliced. There won't be any room left for humanity as it is at present in different countries to prosper.
This just my opinion! A lot of people will totally disagree! I totally get that. Everyone has a right to have a view on what might be around the corner on a political possible dystopian landscape.
I wonder whether the joke at the end ("grumpy face recognition") was spontaneous?
To me, it appeared to overwrite much of what the BBW lady said, with a joke.
This is old news that no one cares about. Do you have any idea what's happening in AI?
wow impressive .And good job
YEA YEA !!!! Its a lot more sinister than that !!!! wake up sheeple !!!!
Someone needs to create an AI lieometer where you plug it in to your TV and it gives a probability the politician is lying to you from working out which facial expressions map to those known to be telling a lie.
Then condemned China for using it, now they are slowly trying to apply it. ๐๐คก
Lets be honest, it will only be used against people whove commited wrong think.
the leviathan rises
I need a montage of videos of UKโers saying schedule.
Silkie Carlo "there's about 30 billion [photo's] in his database alone"? Is that what she actually said 30 billion?
Starmerโs tinder moment at night. Swipe Right, left left left ๐ โค ๐ฌ๐ง
I have mentioned Clearview AI (CVAI) on other "Ai Decoded" episodes, at university we was taught about cvai 2-3 years ago with respects to ethics and morality, given that clearview AI got its data by web scraping, a method of copying images off the internet, in this case, Facebook.
It then offered its products solely to law enforcement with the same pitch you heard on here…
But also it offered it as a trial to members of the public, ANY member of the public, and the problem there was it being misused, ie:
Picture a person escaping D.V and has been given an alias to protect them, then the abuser is merely able to upload an image of their face and be able to locate their new social accounts, and begin online harassment or stalking and the anxiety etc continues.
CVAI was also fined quite heavily by the ICO (Information Commissioners Office) responsible for issuing out penalties for data protection act breaches (ยฃ7.5 million) you can read the report on their website, but the UK is not the only country to have taken action against CVAI

As discussed in this article there was a time in which computer vision was poor at recognising the faces of dark ethnicity which was covered in a paper better known as "Gender Shades" in 2018 however most academics will shy off referencing this paper now as its 6 years old and technology advanced quickly, there are improved algorithms that have been improved upon from the days of this paper, for instance since 2018 we all saw the paper released by Google "Attention is all you need" by Vaswani et al in 2018, this saw large language models improve to the point of having Google Gemeni and Open Ais Chat GPT.
But the technology was not limited to LLMs it was also put into play with Computer Vision (CV) which saw Vision Transformers or ViTs now replace the previously used (CNNs) or Convoluted Neural Networks, with higher performance and accuracy

So whilst the later part is true, the ethics and morality side and their previous troubles past has been swept under the carpet by the BBC in order to glorify the technology
I personally as a moderator on reddit was able to trace a female users who was abusing the platform to obtain money by form of deception by nothing more than a single photo of her genitalia using this type of technology, it first let to other websites with her face on then to her facebook account and other socials, which also revealed the childrens school, her husbands name, were they lived, and if I can do that as a non-law enforcement body, imagine this in the wrong hands (she was made aware of the information I was able to locate and asked her to reconsider her online behaviour as one day she will try to defraud the wrong person)

Well there are many criminals working at the bbc. And protect them, mainly pedoโs
