Warning – this report contains explicit descriptions of sexual harassment.
Two years ago, former Lieutenant Sophie Brooke spoke to Sky News revealing allegations of sexual harassment and physical abuse. An inquiry was then launched into Royal Navy submarines, which confirmed evidence of misogyny, bullying and other forms of “intolerable” behaviour.
A public apology was made today by the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Ben Key, head of the Royal Navy, saying he is “truly sorry” to any personnel that went through “any form of unacceptable behaviour” in their time.
Speaking to Sky correspondent Sadiya Chowdhury, Ms Brooke says she is “appreciative” of the apology and that she’s relieved it has “finally come to an end”.
