BasketballNews reported a report from Serbian newspaper Ozone Press that Aleksa Avramovic, one of the stars of Serbia’s Olympic team, is receiving interest from both the Hawks and Clippers.
Abramovich, who was named Defensive Player of the Year at the Paris Olympics, has a clause in his contract with CSKA Moscow that allows him to sign with an NBA team, but the clause expires on Tuesday, giving him limited time to make the deal.
Avramovic’s contract with CSKA includes a buyout fee that NBA teams can chip in up to $850,000 to cover, but neither Atlanta nor Los Angeles have made a formal offer so far, according to Mozart Sports.
According to BasketballNews, Abramovich is currently preparing to travel to Moscow for the start of training camp on August 26. If he does not sign with an NBA team, he is expected to continue his career in Russia.
The 29-year-old point guard averaged 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals in six games as Serbia won the bronze medal in Paris. He averaged 3.4 steals per 40 minutes in the tournament, including four in the third-place game against Germany.
Both the Hawks and Clippers currently have 15 players on standard contracts, so either team would have to pay a guaranteed deposit before the start of the season to add Abramovich to their team.
