Sir Ian McKellen has said he could never have taken on the role of Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films after the death of Richard Harris because he knew he disapproved of him as a gay actor.

Ian always gives you good old great kind and loving Grandpa…
Richard Harris is by far the better actor. & I agree with his sentiment.
"FLY YOU FOOLS!!" Dumbledore said calmly.
❤😂🎉😢😮😅
real wizard more like the wizard that barley used shit or any magic
Ida.
Not one. They are rejected in our Teachings. Diluthdaathithith. I am Easogos. The Grand Master and Celestial Emperor and King, my name is Limne.
They are not our children.
And cast the President into Prison. Brad Pitt and Daisy Ridley and their army and all of their Lot are extinct to me.
Write it please, kind sirs.
The Americans are rejected in the Law.
We are the Celeste. Aiddelinuth Daathiri. Why are these men reproofed and that disobedient?

A Jedi Destroys a Celestial Being?
We cannot touch their lives if they are that disobedient. We have spoken and these Men are like infant children who need but do not want.
They would destroy a Star Being?
What is wrong with these disobedient persons?
He was just too gay to play Dumbledore 🤷
Fun fact: Dumbledore and Gandalf italian dubber is the same one: Gianni Musy.
Wait, why didn't he want the role?
he would have been a phenomenal Alfred Pennyworth
I think Dumbledore is a lot more powerful than Gandalf but I also think Gandalf is more underrated and less known whereas Dumbledore is more popular and respected
Perhaps he simply knew Rowling is a toxic bigot and therefore didn't want any association with her.
"You were in a different franchise"
No, THE Wizard. Gandalf was the OG Wizard, the archetype from which all fantasy media portrayals of wizards are inspired from today
The real wizard. The omega level wizard.
Are you telling me that there is a multiverse out there somewhere where we could have gotten Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Magneto AND Dumbledore?
"Fool of a Took" Dumbledore said calmly
I don't think he would have been bothered with playing Dumbledore after already playing Gandalf. He'd have been thinking to himself Are the only acting roles i'm going to get now are just old wizards?
It's another tale of the importance of not blending your personal consumption into your ego.
He calmly asked frodo if he put his name in the goblet of fire.
Fool of a Weasley, you shall not pass.
Thats so disrespectful to richard harris:(
McKellen playing both Gandalf and Dumbledore would've been utterly ridiculous
Respect for another actor is rare to come by most of them are sleezy

That's really wonderful, actually. They may have disagree, but McKellen respected Harris, and knew that he wouldn't have been happy with his portrayal of his character had he taken the role.
Could you imagine a Belrog in place of that three headed dog?
he's not alone I often got confused between gandalf and Dumbledore as a child
Honestly I think that says a lot about Sir Ian as a professional and as a person. I have no doubt he would've been fantastic as Dumbledore but he knew Richard Harris wouldn't approve and so he decided to respect the wishes of his colleague who'd passed away
