Employers will have to offer flexible working hours, including a four-day week, to all workers under new government plans.
To receive their full pay, employees would still have to work their full hours but compressed into a shorter working week, something some workplaces already do.
Currently employees have the right to request flexible hours, but companies have no legal obligation to agree.

The 4-day week Labour are offering is NOT the 4-day working week with 80% working hours that has been trialled and was a great success. What they're offering is literally 4x 10 hour days. It's not the same thing and arguably worse than a normal 5-day week.
The woman talking about retail, it's simple just stay an hour longer open. Not hard math lol 😂
In india we work 11 hours for 6 days 😢😢😢
I would love a 4 day week. 5 days is just too tiring and there's not enough time for my life
When the masses rebel they listen! Keep the fight up 🙂
Good more hours for me
It sounds great but if this happens it will be the new 9 to 7 instead of 9 to 5. Also, your favourite small restaurant will be closed for a full weekend. Small business owners are not millionaires and Labour will ruin small businesses if this happens.
A 4 day week without any reduction in salary will result in employees having to work an extra 2 hours per day. Not too bad in summer but worse for women going home in winter.
Mathew has been taken in!! There is nothing subtle about Starmer and his communist government. Starmer is preparing the ground to force employers to surrender to unions.
Wouldn’t work for all sectors
This won't work not in England
They will have to hire more staff, and raise prices. Its all possible, industry and the free market will need to adapt to the new rules.
only for the people with a comfy overpaid desk job tho
This must be for the important jobs not minimum wage jobs lol
What's the point if the company can refuse the request
It will be a happier Britain and healthier family life.
Wow this is why they wanted to europe. I think its a great idea. It will work for some not for others less people on rhe roads better for environment.
Requested this 2 months ago and still getting reviewed by my manager
All the employees are happy but they don’t realise that the boss with close down the buisness if there employees are not working enough days a week. So they will be many unemployment.
I do 5 nights, so I only have 1 full day of. I'd love to go to 4 and keep my hours. I work for a large retailer that constantly says i can go to 4 nights, but i have to drop hours to do so, which i couldn't afford to do.
One been working 4 days a week for years now. Sunday to Wednesday 10 hours a day, suits me to the ground
It’ll never happen – humans are greedy by nature, either bosses or individuals- they’d be better off inventing a 8 day week
MANY EMPLOYEES WORK LESS THAN 4 DAYS, THEY FIND LOTS OF TIME FOR GOLF ⛳
How does this four day working week be applied to local councils, most of them are attending five days a week but only do three days work 😂😂😂
Funny how it's the business owners that don't want it.
If Currently employees have the right to request flexible hours, but companies have no legal obligation to agree, so what is the point of implementing this rule?
As an employer,
If British people want to work less days, I know EXACTLY who I'll be employing to replace them.
Just sit on the beach everyday.
Switching from a 5-day to a 4-day workweek has made me feel much more productive and motivated, both at work and at home.
I use Friday mornings to handle chores and shopping, which frees up the weekend for quality time with my family. This system benefits everyone, including my employer, and gives me the time I need for my fitness routine, which I'm passionate about.
Adopting a 4-day workweek has significantly reduced staff turnover, leading to more experienced and satisfied teams. Productivity should be prioritized over the number of hours spent 'at work,' and I hope more employers recognize the potential advantages and profits that come with this approach.
Standardising what constitutes a weeks work needs to happen. 4 x10 hour days is too long. What are we doing?
this news anchor seems like he's upset people will have 4 working days
I’d happily work an extra 1.5-2 hours a day to get a 3 day weekend
Play the game guy's play the game
So they don’t have to? 😂
Good to see. A step in the right direction
