The UAE bodybuilding team won seven medals on the second day of the 5th West Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, which featured 270 athletes from 13 countries and concluded in Muscat.
Emirati athlete Ahmed Al Mualla won gold in the Masters classical bodybuilding category, while Karim Mohsen won gold in the under-90kg bodybuilding category.
Rashid Al Shumaili won a silver medal in the Masters Bodybuilding over 80kg category, while Abdullah Al Marzouki won a silver medal in the under 85kg category.
Mohammed Ehab won bronze medals in the youth under-75kg category, Mohammed Al Balushi in the under-65kg category and Saber Al Shehi in the under-90kg category.
Mohammed Shahin Al Hosani, Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (EBBF) board member and chairman of the technical committee, praised the Emirati athletes for their outstanding performance at the West Asian Championships.
He pointed out that the team won a total of 12 medals, a winner’s trophy and two professional cards, winning widespread praise from the sports world for their great achievements amid tough competition.
Hosani praised the support and patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Emirates Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, as well as the efforts of the board members in helping athletes perform at a high level and garner support from fans.
He also stated that they would review their achievements so far and address any issues in preparation for future tournaments.
Zuwaid Salmin Al Zaabi, technical director of the UAE national team, said the results were impressive given the strength of the competition and the number of medals won.
He noted that all the players delivered strong performances reflecting the prestige of the previous championships.
Zaabi highlighted that the championship featured the best athletes from West Asia and that the Emirati athletes demonstrated their technical and physical prowess. He expressed his gratitude to all the athletes for their efforts in reaching the podium in the international competition.
“I had the opportunity to be in Oman with the UAE national team for the 2024 West Asian Championships. Although it was a tough tournament, everything went smoothly and all our players participated safely without any health concerns,” said Dr. Saeed Sassani.
“Our team performed brilliantly and won numerous medals in various categories. Heartfelt congratulations to them. Their success is testament to our athletes putting their health first and undergoing regular medical check-ups to stay at their best.”
