This week, users of Elon Musk’s X stumbled upon an intriguing new option hidden deep within the social media platform’s settings tab.
“We’ll allow you to use your posts, interactions with Grok, your inputs, and results to train and fine-tune,” reads a settings option for X, formerly known as Twitter. The option refers to X’s AI chatbot, Grok, which the company continues to integrate across its platform.
The fine print beneath the text of the settings options says the data will be used to “continuously improve your experience” on X, but that user data will also be shared with xAI, Musk’s AI company behind Grok.
It’s good that X informs users how their data will be used, and it’s also a plus that X gives users the choice of whether or not to share their data with xAI and X for AI training.

But it’s no good for X to opt users in by default, and it’s no good for users to have to discover these opt-in and opt-out options themselves.

How to opt out of X’s AI training
To stop X from using your data to train its AI, you need to take a few steps. (Note: it appears this setting can only be disabled in the web version of X, not in X’s iOS or Android apps.)
X in the left sidebar menu[設定とプライバシー]Click Options.
Go to the Settings tab and then click on Privacy and Safety.
Scroll down to the “Data Sharing and Personalization” section and click on the “Grok” option.
The setting “Allow your posts, Grok interactions, inputs, and results to be used for training and fine-tuning” should be checked. Click the checkmark to unselect it and opt out.
This setting also gives you the option to delete your conversation history with X’s Grok AI chatbot.
Musk has big plans for his AI company. He recently floated the idea of getting Tesla to invest $5 billion in xAI, the company behind Grok. If X users don’t want their data to be used to train Musk’s next big project, they should follow the steps above.
