Brazil’s Supreme Court has ruled that the social media platform will now officially be known as Twitter after the platform reversed course and began complying with a court ruling in which billionaire owner Elon Musk had previously vowed not to meet. The company granted permission to the well-known Company X to resume its services in Japan.
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes gave X the green light to resume operations in Latin America’s largest country with immediate effect.
Judge de Moraes has been in a months-long feud with Musk over free speech, far-right accounts and misinformation.
In the ruling, the judge stated that “all requirements for the immediate return of X Brazil have been documented.”
In late August, X failed to comply with a court order to curb hate speech in Brazil, one of its largest and most coveted markets, and failed to appoint a legal representative in the country as required by law. He was suspended from his job.
Mr. Musk had denounced the order as censorship and called Judge de Moraes a “dictator,” but in recent weeks he has begun to backtrack and reverse his position, with X blocking the ordered accounts and Wiretapped representatives and began paying pending fines.
The judge ruled that Brazil’s telecommunications regulator Anatel must try to get Company X back online in the country within 24 hours.
