White Dudes for Harris, a pop-up group of several prominent white men in Hollywood supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign to defeat President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, announced that Elon Musk’s X had suspended the group’s account shortly after hosting a YouTube Livestream that raised more than $4 million for the Harris campaign.
Mike Nellis, founder and CEO of digital advertising firm Authentic and one of the organizers of White Dudes for Harris, wrote in a post Monday night that X had informed the group that the account had been suspended for “violating our organization’s rules on suspension evasion.”
“We scared Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr. tonight so much that they’ve suspended our accounts and won’t let us get back in,” Nellis wrote. “They’re scared of their success tonight but we’re not going to give up.” In a later post, he added, “I seriously ask… are we the first white males to be suspended by Elon Musk’s Twitter? I think so.”
“The tweets are back (@dudes4harris) but the account remains suspended and, according to Twitter, the account is in ‘permanent read-only mode,'” Nellis wrote in an update Tuesday morning.
A representative for Company X did not respond to a request for comment.
Hamill wrote about the apparent suspension, “In just 3 hours, the @dudes4harris Zoom call raised $4M for @KamalaHarris. Apparently others were affected. 🤣”
Musk responded to someone who posted an excerpt of Hamill’s comments during a livestream late Monday night, saying “it’s never been more important for us to stand up.” [Trump’s] One woman, who wrote an article titled “Advocate for People Living with Mental Illness and Vote for Kamala in 2024,” wrote of Hamill that “his brain has been in Kool-Aid for too long.”
White Dude, who supports Harris, said 190,000 people tuned in to watch his YouTube livestream on Monday, which featured actors including Hamill, Jeff Bridges, J.J. Abrams, Sean Astin, Josh Groban, Josh Gad, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bradley Whitford. “I’m qualified. I’m a white guy and I support Harris,” Bridges, who played “The Dude” in the Coen brothers’ 1998 film “The Big Lebowski,” said in the livestream.
X’s White Dudes for Harris account describes itself as “a bunch of dudes supporting Kamala Harris” and currently has over 58,000 followers.
Musk, meanwhile, has made no secret of his opposition to Harris. On Friday, July 26, he shared a deepfake video that was an altered version of a recent Harris campaign video, in which he said Harris was “the ultimate diversity hire” and that he “spent four years under the tutelage of the ultimate deep state puppet, Joe Biden, who is a fantastic leader.” While the original account that posted the video labeled it a “parody,” Musk’s post was simply captioned “This is awesome” with a laughing emoji.
California Governor Gavin Newsom cited the article about Musk’s post in a post on X Channel on Sunday, writing, “It should be illegal to manipulate voices in these ‘ads’ and I will be signing legislation in the coming weeks to make sure it is illegal.”
Musk responded to Newsom, saying, “I checked with Professor Sagon Deesnutz, a world-renowned authority, and he said parody is legal in the US 🤷♂️.”
