Following Microsoft’s widespread service outage that caused major disruption around the world, Tesla owner Elon Musk took the opportunity to appear on X to comment on the situation.
The investor and entrepreneur shared two posts, one of which was shared in October 2021 and read, “Macrohard>>Microsoft.”
Another post shared from a different account about 10 minutes earlier humorously pointed out that platform X was still working while everything else was crashing. “Everything else is down and this app is still working?” the post joked, accompanied by a photo of the meme.
Microsoft users around the world, including banks and airlines, reported widespread outages on Friday, hours after the company said it was gradually fixing issues affecting access to Microsoft 365 apps and services.
The cause, exact nature and scale of the outage are unclear, and while Microsoft seemed to suggest in a post on X that the situation was improving, reports of the outage spreading around the world continued hours later.
DownDetector, a website that tracks user-reported internet outages, recorded widespread outages at airlines including Visa, ADT Security, Amazon, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Australian media outlets reported disruptions at airlines, telecommunications companies, banks and media outlets, with computer systems unable to be accessed. Some banks in New Zealand also said they were offline.
Microsoft 365 posted to X that the company is “working to reroute affected traffic to alternate systems to more quickly mitigate the impact” and that it is “seeing positive trends in service availability.” The company did not respond to a request for comment and did not provide further details about the cause of the outage.
