After years of being the bad boy, Donald Trump seems to have now returned to X/Twitter full time, save for a few posts, but for many, it doesn’t seem like the same old thing.
President Trump returned to X after a technically-troubled interview with Elon Musk, during which the former president shared a very strange AI photo of the two dancing to “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees.
Trump began posting regularly on X on Saturday, and it goes without saying who his main focus is: Kamala Harris.
Of the 13 posts Trump has shared on X in the past few days, eight are about Harris. What’s even more worrying is that Trump now appears to be fully immersed in AI-driven images like those shared on Facebook.
It’s unclear whether Trump believes these images are real — after all, he shared an AI image of Taylor Swift fans showing their support for him.
One image Trump must have known was fake but shared anyway was an AI-generated image of Kamala Harris hosting a rally in front of a sold-out crowd in Chicago. While that doesn’t sound all that strange, the giant Soviet flags hoisted above the heads of what appear to be Soviet soldiers seem not only a terrible representation of Harris’ somewhat liberal policies, but also a sign that Trump’s standards have dropped significantly.
While always a terrible person, even Trump’s biggest critics would admit that his use of Twitter in its heyday was the stuff of great black comedy.
While his posts were often reprehensible, they often unintentionally produced comedic gems that were ripe for ridicule and memes.
Who can forget when he called Britain’s current monarch “Prince of Whales” or when he completely got his wife Melania’s name wrong? Of course, a staple of the genre is, and always will be, “covfefe.”
Even before he became president, he had an obsession with celebrity dating advice and diet coke, which often elicited laughter and embarrassment that someone of his stature could have such thoughts.
Trump’s feeble return to X has seen him mocked for relegating himself to the type of humor previously associated with Elon Musk.
One person wrote: “He’s always been awful but an S-grade poster. It’s like watching CR7 at Al Nasr.”
Another person chimed in: “Trump was one of the top 5 posters of all time and now he’s dating Elon and making embarrassing posts. [Musk] He really is the kiss of death man.”
A third added: “Terrible article, he’s lost his momentum, Kamala will lose.”
In contrast, the Harris campaign’s leaning into trends like Charlie XCX’s “Brat Girl Summer” and J.D. Vance’s couch memes is not only showing that it is connecting with a younger, more diverse audience, but also showing that Trump is now a very old and outdated figure, and his recent posts prove it.
In 2022, President Trump claimed that Twitter had become “boring” since he was banned from the platform for his involvement in the riots on January 6. Unfortunately for President Trump, the situation has now been reversed and he is encouraging boredom.
