From September, tens of thousands of NHS doctors and nurses could be trained via apprenticeships. It’s part of a plan to tackle huge staff shortages in the NHS

Would you want to see a doctor without a degree?
Then what is wrong to give fully trained IMG doctors who went to Medical School for 5 + years and some of them are fully trained in Specialists as well to fill those 142000 spots?
That plan sound like they will produce quack doctors, magically people become doctors without formal education in pre-clinical, clinical and practical medical experience.
No Don't thay already do this with foreign doctors basically lots of doctors that have been warned by the inspection companies have foreign names.
I'd be ok with seeing an apprenticeship doctor if I knew already what was wrong with me like ear infection, etc and I would only let them treat me an adult who could articulate what's wrong. Low stakes stuff
In university you have you learn 4 years of women’s right and gender theories before actually studying medicine. So this is actually a very effective initiative. I think it will be a success.
You cannot cut on premed topics such as math, physics chemistry and biochemistry or else there will not be a basis for advanced topics such as physiology or pharmacology. It is possible to shorten the time by reducing on some non-surgery practical phases for nurses.
why have they harmed me all my life to do this. Miss Helen Rebecca Hart.
No I wouldn't! Still the real reason the government wants to do this is because nobody abroad would hire these quacks given the low level of qualification thus solving the problem of highly qualified doctors leaving to go abroad.
There’s such a staff shortage because all the doctors are moving to Australia. You get paid around three times more and working conditions are better (not great, but better). Our emergency departments are packed full of British doctors.
As a doctor myself I tried to get my registration in the UK. So ridiculously difficult, it’s like they’re trying to discourage us from doing so. Maybe make the 2 year process a little streamlined and you’ll get some more doctors.
Wait wait wait
So thousands of students are denied entry into med school every year, thousands of doctors are forced to sit the PLAB
But they’d rather rely on apprenticeship?
Why not just take all those IMGs who apply every year and have them do the paid apprenticeship before giving them full licences?
Slap in the face to the medical students paying £50,000+.
Also medical students are not getting enough teaching as it stands because of increased numbers – and they are competing for time in clinical areas and getting skills. There is a bottleneck in placements for newly qualified doctors too – with struggles with getting them jobs after uni. This will not help.
Just let anyone register as a doctor without training. Worked for Dr Nick!
Become your own physician
I suspect (and hope) this wasn't a serious suggestion, but just an idea thrown out as part of the long campaign for the next general election (which I assume started as soon as the council elections concluded). Hopefully people see through it and vote for a more sensible party, who actually works on improving retention in the NHS and workable improvements to the funding of training.
Whoopee?
Another reason why britain is Not great anymore! It's Game Over little britain! "From Russia with Love" ❤️🇷🇺❤️
Hospital doctors certainly but do we need GPs as such?
Across the NHS and social care there are 260,000 job vacancies. In hospitality there are 300,000 vacancies. In farming and food processing there are 150,000 unfilled jobs. It's apparent that training isn't the issue here in the UK.
No, I wouldn't. That's an absurd idea.
