Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t saying no to future anime and animation projects.
Cyberpunk 2077 had a notoriously rough start, but more recently the tech-series has been getting back on track. Overseen by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077’s trajectory has been unusual as it was filled with conflict in the early days. However, that all changed with the arrival of Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The anime is a collaboration between the world created by CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, the creators of Kill la Kill and Promare. The show was an instant hit, and now CD Projekt Red seems interested in expanding into anime productions.
The confession came from the game developer’s CEO, Michal Nowakowski, during the company’s earnings call this week, where he said that CD Projekt Red “definitely has plans to do more with cyberpunk animation” in the future.
In the follow-up question, Nowakowski was asked about a Season 2 of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, and the exec didn’t deny the possibility as the company has done previously. Rather, Nowakowski reiterated that the developer is interested in more animation projects, and that no details on that subject are available at this time.
Clearly, the Cyberpunk 2077 production team has a love for anime and owes a lot to Studio Trigger. The show launched in September 2022, when interest in the game was waning, but Cyberpunk Edgerunners revived the IP. The show’s nuanced characters and vibrant animation quickly earned it the title of one of the best gaming adaptations to date. And with CD Projekt Red considering a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, there’s no telling what could happen.
If you want to know more about Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the hit anime is available on Netflix. The show is available in both subbed and dubbed versions. For more information about the anime adaptation, read the official synopsis below:
“In a dystopia rife with corruption, crime, and cybernetic implants, impulsive but talented street kid David Martinez loses everything in a drive-by gun attack and chooses to survive on the wrong side of the law as an ‘edgerunner’ – a high-tech black market mercenary also known as a ‘cyberpunk.'”
