CNN —
The trailer for a new documentary about “Superman” star Christopher Reeve includes a touching moment featuring his son.
“Superman: The Christopher Reeve Story” explores Reeve’s career and work after he was paralyzed in an equestrian accident in 1995. The actor died of heart failure in 2004 at age 52.
In the trailer, eldest son Matthew can be seen looking visibly emotional as he reminisces about his father.
“I said goodbye and he waved,” Matthew Reeve recalls in the trailer, “and that was the last time I ever saw him standing there.”

Reeve’s father was an avid and experienced equestrian who was injured and paralyzed when his horse stopped at a rail jump and was thrown forward during a race in Virginia.
The documentary features the actor’s own words as well as intimate interviews with Reeve’s wife Dana, who died of lung cancer in 2006, as well as close friends Susan Sarandon and Glenn Close.
“Superman: The Christopher Reeve Story” will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures, which is owned by CNN’s parent company.
The documentary will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will screen in select theaters on September 21st and September 25th.
