Whether the Indiana Fever wins or loses, Caitlin Clark will continue to break records.
The WNBA rookie again improved on her personal best on Wednesday, recording a career-high 19 assists in the Fever’s 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings, breaking the WNBA single-game assist record.
With this performance, Clark also set a new rookie record for assists in a single game, surpassing the 16 set by Tina Penicheiro in 1998. Clark also broke the Fever’s single-season franchise assist record with 202 assists in just 26 games. The current WNBA single-season record is 316, set by Alyssa Thomas last season.

Clark also far surpassed her previous career highs, which she set multiple times this season, including in the Fever’s blowout win over the New York Liberty on July 6. In that game, Clark became the first WNBA rookie to record a triple-double in the Fever’s win over the No. 1 ranked Liberty.
The Fever-Wings matchup gave the WNBA a spectacular win ahead of the All-Star and Olympic break. Dallas came out on the offensive and led the Fever by as many as 16 points in the first half, but Indiana fought back to cut the deficit to eight points by halftime.
After a close third quarter, the fourth quarter was extremely close with both teams trading the lead and staying tied for much of the final quarter, but ultimately Dallas was able to hold off the Fever thanks to the efforts of star guard Areke Ogunbowale.
Both teams were led by dynamic duos, with Ogunbowale and Odyssey Sims scoring 24 points apiece for Dallas, while Clark and Boston recorded 24 and 28 points, respectively, for the Fever, with Boston matching career highs in points.
Clark is coming off another convincing performance in his Rookie of the Year campaign with a historic performance, as he led the league in assists with 7.8 per game and has quickly cemented himself as a key part of the Fever starting lineup.
Dallas improves to 6-19 with the win but remains near the bottom of the WNBA standings, while the Fever sits firmly in the middle of the pack at 11-15.
The WNBA is heading into its All-Star break with the All-Star game between Team USA and Team WNBA taking place on Saturday. Clark, Boston and Ogunbowale are all members of Team WNBA and will face off against members of Team USA ahead of the WNBA break leading up to the 2024 Olympics.
