2024 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau has teamed up on YouTube with Donald Trump, the former and likely next president of the United States, who is known to be a huge golf fan.
On Monday, the LIV golf star teased the latest video in his “Break 50” series on his YouTube channel, captioning a short clip of him and Trump posing arm-in-arm with the text: “The next Break 50 episode is out now…”
What is DeChambeau’s “Break 50” series on YouTube?
For most amateur golfers, “breaking 50” means playing nine holes in under 50 strokes, or an average of five or six strokes per hole. But that’s notably not mentioned, given that Trump is known to be an avid and extremely talented golfer and DeChambeau is one of the best players in the world.
DeChambeau has amassed a large following on YouTube, where he regularly posts videos of golf-related games and challenges with guests such as Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Paige Spiranac and Chris Pratt, and last month invited Kansas City Chiefs players Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes to join him.
“Break 50” is one of DeChambeau’s regular challenges, where he and a partner try to finish 18 holes (yes, 18 holes, not 9) in under 50 shots, which equates to 23 under par on the courses he normally shoots. Both players tee off, pick their best tee shot and hit their next shot from there. They follow that rule throughout the round, hitting their next shot where the best of the previous two shots finished.
If you think you’ve never seen a professional golfer drop that low, you’d be right. But what makes this challenge interesting is that it usually takes place on the red tees, closest to the hole. As DeChambeau himself says, you have to be “near perfect” to get close to 50.
How to watch DeChambeau and Trump play golf together
As of press time, DeChambeau has not yet uploaded a video of him playing against Trump, but it is expected to be available on his official YouTube channel on Tuesday.
What is Donald Trump’s golf handicap?
Before Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, the topic of golf handicaps came up in a debate with Trump. According to USGA records, Trump is a 2.5 handicap golfer and extremely talented on the course, while Biden reportedly has a 6.7 handicap, also very respectable (though Trump, predictably, didn’t believe it).
Through the Trump Organization, Trump owns 17 golf courses around the world, including Turnberry in Scotland, which has hosted the British Open four times.
Is DeChambeau a Trump supporter?
In the video, DeChambeau said he has contacted presidential campaigns from both parties and that Trump is “up for a challenge.”
He added: “It’s an incredible honor to play golf with a sitting and former president, and anyone is welcome to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”

The 30-year-old also said he would donate $10,000 to the Wounded Warriors Project for every score he shoots under par: “Just to be clear, this is about golf and giving back to our veterans, not politics.”
But DeChambeau has previously acknowledged he is “very fortunate to have the relationship” with Trump, having played against him in several pro-ams in the past. In an interview on Trump’s website, the California native even said he was “very honored to have this relationship with the Trump Organization as the president of Trump Golf.”
