CARROLLTON, Texas — Bryson DeChambeau doesn’t shy away from controversy. After all, he was paid a lot of money to play on the Saudi Arabia-sponsored LIV golf tour.
From his first days as a professional golfer, the two-time U.S. Open champion’s reputation was strong: He dressed and acted strangely, and people assumed he knew a lot about the science of golf and his rapid weight gain.
But more recently, for lack of a better word, cooler heads have prevailed and he has made a name for himself with his YouTube content.

DeChambeau has made himself more approachable and likeable (a second U.S. Open win at Pinehurst will always go down in your memory).
But about a month ago, DeChambeau made an even bolder challenge by posting a video with former President Trump, in which the two played a best-ball format from the red tees at Trump’s course in Bedminster, New Jersey, aiming to break 50 strokes.
An athlete’s public political leanings can lead to a loss (or gain) of fandom, but when asked by Fox News Digital if he had any regrets about the post, DeChambeau said, “Absolutely not.”

“There’s always a risk with that, but from my perspective, it was really focused on entertainment,” DeChambeau told Fox News Digital in a recent interview at Marido Golf Club outside Dallas, where the LIV Golf Team Championship will be held next month. “You can talk about politics, but that’s a whole other story. I was never trying to talk about politics on my YouTube channel. I was just trying to provide great entertainment.”
That’s right. The video has now been viewed more than 11 million times, making it by far the most popular video on DeChambeau’s channel. The No. 2 video? Last week’s clip of him and John Daly attempting to break 50. (Trump’s video has more than twice as many views as Daly’s.)
“Like with the John Daly video, he’s a very controversial figure, he smokes cigarettes, he drinks alcohol, but the aim was to showcase their personalities and entertainment. The aim was to provide great golf content,” he said.

At the very least, DeChambeau knows what works, except when it comes to breaking 50. That hasn’t happened yet.
