The rumors surrounding Brooklyn Nets forwards Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson may finally be coming to fruition.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Brooklyn is looking at Cleveland Cavaliers forward Isaac Okoro. The Cavs have expressed interest in both Johnson and Finney-Smith and could use either or both to send their 2020 No. 5 overall pick to the Nets in a sign-and-trade.
At just 23 years old, Okoro has already had a solid NBA career, averaging 9.4 points and three rebounds per game last season while shooting a career-best 39 percent from three-point range. Okoro’s impact goes beyond the numbers, as he has developed into one of the most impactful defenders in the NBA.
Scott added that Brooklyn is not the only team interested in a potential trade, as the offer Okoro is currently being offered by Cleveland is more than a bargain. Okoro reportedly received offers in the $8-10 million range, which is very valuable considering what Okoro offers. Okoro will ultimately sign with the team that offers him the highest amount, but if the Cavs’ reported interest in the Nets’ two forwards is true, he could end up in Brooklyn.
This would continue the Nets’ offseason trend of stacking lottery-picked talent without immediately delivering, as was the case with Zi’air Williams and Killian Hayes. Adding another young forward like Okoro would crowd the 3 and 4 positions, but you can never have too much wing talent in today’s modern NBA.
Still, as more information is released, an intriguing storyline will unfold.
