X has been banned in Brazil since late August after Elon Musk failed to comply with a court order to ban his account and misinform police.
This week, X (formerly Twitter) was unbanned in Brazil. Elon Musk’s social media platform has been taken offline in the country after failing to comply with several court orders banning accounts that spread extreme misinformation. X initially withdrew its representatives out of the country to avoid the legal consequences of dealing with requests from the Brazilian Supreme Court, specifically Minister Alexandre de Moraes. However, this resulted in a complete ban on the platform within its borders. Elon Musk and X then agreed to and complied with Brazil’s order, allowing the platform to lift the ban.
Brazil’s highest court, the Federal Supreme Court, posted a statement on the government’s official website regarding the lifting of the ban on X in the country. A statement on the matter, translated by CNBC, was short and to the point.
The platform could once again be used by Brazilians, as the company complied with the conditions set by the rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
X is proud to return to Brazil. Throughout this process, providing tens of millions of Brazilians with access to an essential platform was paramount. We will continue to protect free speech within the limits of the law wherever we do business.

X’s official channels also covered the lifting of the ban and attempted to interpret it as a victory for free speech, but Musk has made free speech a core part of his platform, despite decisions to the contrary. You are trying to claim that you are a tenant.

Mr. Musk has probably been very disruptive in politics lately. The relatively new Twitter owner has previously argued that Twitter needs to remain neutral, but recently he has expressed support for the re-election of former president and convicted felon Donald Trump. I’m strengthening it. This includes disseminating misinformation from prominent platforms, prompting warnings from the EU.
Musk’s efforts to defy Brazil’s laws and politics were likely dampened by the surge in Bluesky users after the app was banned in Brazil. In any case, it looks like X is back in Brazilian decks. Stay tuned as we continue to follow more news on X/Twitter.
