Cam Newton is no stranger to controversy, and this time the former NFL player found himself in the spotlight during an Aug. 23 interview with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant on her podcast, “Funky Friday,” in which the two discussed Newton’s desire to have more children.

After revealing he has eight children with three women, Newton said he wants more kids, even though some may not agree with his lifestyle.
“A lot of people look at my situation and think I’m not high-functioning,” he told Bryant. “I just think God [more children]… My point is that the desire to get married is less than the fear of divorce.”
Bryant, the life coach, said Newton was “selfishly destroying his family”, a claim that was met with a flood of online responses in agreement.
One user, @Scrappmusiq, honestly put it this way: “The way men convince themselves of the lie that having children with a woman is less of a responsibility than being married needs to be studied by scholars of all kinds.”
Another X-personality, @stoppfeenin, echoed similar sentiments: “Cam Newton’s brain needs to be studied in a lab. He tells Dr. Bryant he wants to get married but he has 8 kids with 3 different women. She beats him to it by telling him the truth of his reality and he can’t grasp the concept.”
Black women also took note of Bryant and Newton’s interaction, with musician @Miss_Mojo noting how gentle Bryant had to be for the star to receive her message: “I know exactly how gentle and cajoling Bryant had to be to get her quiet enough to read the message aloud.”
But not everyone wanted to join the hate movement. One person, @DelanoSquires, believed the athlete’s reality was a reflection of who he was. “Cam Newton is a billionaire. Has 4 kids with an ex-girlfriend. Like many Americans, he no longer believes marriage is a “necessity” before having kids,” he wrote.
One woman named @damnnkriss praised Newton for his honesty: “Cam Newton is a perfect example of why so many women in today’s society choose to be single over dating a man. I’m so glad he was so honest and spoke his mind on his podcast,” she said.
Although Newton seems quite proud of his family background, its controversial nature will always provide great fodder for the internet.
