Real Madrid have already been linked with a move for Bayern Munich player Alphonso Davies, and while it seems inevitable that the Canadian full-back will join the Spanish club, it remains to be seen when the move will take place, while one of the team’s midfielders is also apparently interested in donning the iconic royal white shirt.
Not so long ago, Leon Goretzka was considered one of the best football midfielders in the world, but it’s fair to say that his reputation has dropped considerably in recent times.
His future at Bayern Munich is currently unclear with a departure likely, but if he does leave it is unclear where he would end up, although Goretzka is said to have his eye on a number of clubs, including Real Madrid.
As Florian Plettenberg tweeted, there is interest from MLS, but they are not yet attractive to Goretzka, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and perhaps one or three other teams likely to be interested.
A few years ago, most top clubs would have jumped at the chance to sign a player like Goretzka, but these days that may not be the case.
Goretzka is now 29 years old and his performances haven’t been great lately, but a change of environment could help him regain his best form.
As for Real Madrid, they have hardly signed any experienced players in recent years, apart from those available as free agents or on loan. However, Toni Kroos retired at the end of last season. Why not replace him with another German midfielder? Bayern Munich would likely be open to moving Goretzka this summer for a bargain fee.
