A recent report from SPORT claims that Barcelona are still very interested in signing Joshua Kimmich as a free agent next summer, provided he remains at Bayern Munich and does not renew his current contract.
It’s important to note that just a few months ago it seemed almost impossible for Kimmich to leave Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, but this possibility has now become quite likely.
Interestingly, Kimmich himself seems to be keen for Barcelona to be his next destination, especially under manager Hansi Flick.
Barcelona had been keeping an eye on Kimmich for quite some time, especially during Xavi’s final days, and with only one year left on his contract, he was seen as a valuable opportunity by Barcelona.
As a result, Bayern Munich were faced with the choice of either selling him this summer or extending his contract, but neither option is currently on the table.
Bayern’s reputation is a big issue
Bayern Munich value Kimmich highly and estimate his value at around €50 million – a sum Barcelona are currently unable to pay – which is why Kimmich’s name is on Deco’s target list.

Still, Barcelona will likely be keen to retake Kimmich’s contract with Bayern once he is free to leave on a free transfer in June 2025, a scenario that seemed highly unlikely just a few weeks ago but is now looking more likely.
In fact, the German seems set to see his contract through as he is unhappy with Bayern’s renewal offer, which has seen the Munich side make recent wage cuts and Kimmich feels the 29-year-old deserves a better deal than what is on offer.
Overseas interest in Kimmich
In the latest development, Paris Saint-Germain has expressed interest in Kimmich, with the Ligue 1 side potentially meeting both Bayern’s financial demands and Kimmich’s wage expectations.
However, Kimmich has denied a move to France, preferring to remain in Europe’s top league and is prepared to continue playing in the Bundesliga if a move does not go through.
Kimmich therefore seems likely to remain at Bayern Munich for at least one more season, after which he will be free to choose his next club, with Barcelona likely to be his preferred option.
