The next 10 days in Aptos and Watsonville are all about folklore dancing. A troupe of professional dancers from Veracruz will open the festival with a pan-Mexican tradition. Talking Heads fans rejoice: TH keyboardist/guitarist Jerry Harrison teams up with the genius Adrian Belew to recreate the classic album “Remain in Light.” No city in North America has a more unique and elegant musical heritage than New Orleans, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band takes it with them wherever they go. One is a master of the dobro, the signature instrument of bluegrass, the other is an incredibly expressive country singer. It’s about time you discovered Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley. The artist known as Sun Little plays old school R&B/acoustic folk reminiscent of the Bill Withers/Johnny Taylor era. A real talent. Spread the word. Blues master Mighty Mike Sharmer is back in town, and he’s bringing his incredible musical talents to a new sound. I personally prefer the name “Jack” to “Ernest,” but “Algernon” has to be avoided. Of course, Oscar Wilde knows it best. Trust him. Navajo history and culture meets jazz as Delbert Anderson and his quartet roll into Kumbwa on Friday. It’s still summer, after all.
