Thailand’s parliament has picked Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the daughter of billionaire tycoon and former leader Thaksin, as prime minister. At 37, she will be the country’s youngest PM and the second woman in the post, after her aunt Yingluck. Three British civilians were among the seven people killed in last night’s attack on World Central Kitchen aid workers, the food aid charity has confirmed. The three British nationals were killed along with Australian, Polish and Palestinian workers and a dual US-Canadian citizen. Police have so far arrested 779 people in connection with rioting, with 349 of those charged, the National Police Chiefs’ Council said. It follows a week of violent disorder, including attacks on hotels housing asylum seekers and the looting of shops, which was fuelled by a false rumour that the Southport triple murder suspect was a Muslim asylum seeker. Divers have located a sixth body after the sinking of a luxury yacht off Sicily, believed to be that of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, according to reports in Italian media. Hannah is the last of those missing following the sinking earlier this week.
