The EU is planning to introduce a €7 (£6) EU visa waiver for some non-EU citizens by summer 2025. Under new rules, visitors from a list of non-EU countries, including the UK, will need to apply for a waiver, similar to a US Esta, before travelling to 30 countries in Europe. The Duke of Sussex has lost a High Court challenge against the government over his security when in the UK. Prince Harry was contesting a decision to downgrade his security status when he stopped being a working royal. He argued he had been treated unfairly in the changes to his police protection, when he still faced significant security threats. Prince Harry is to appeal against the court’s ruling that there was nothing unlawful in these security decisions. A convicted South African murderer who shot dead dozens of black men during apartheid has told the BBC the police sanctioned his violence. Louis van Schoor says others should share the blame for the killings he carried out as a security guard. Over a three-year period in the 1980s under the country’s racist apartheid system – which imposed a strict hierarchy that privileged white South Africans – Van Schoor shot and killed at least 39 people. Romanian police have searched the houses of controversial influencer Andrew Tate as part of an investigation into new allegations against him. The internet personality was already awaiting trial for rape and human trafficking, but could potentially now face additional charges of sex with, and trafficking in, underage persons, as well as money-laundering and attempting to influence witnesses, prosecutors say. Afghanistan’s Taliban leaders have been more successful in cracking down on opium than anyone ever has, a BBC investigation has found. The BBC has travelled to major poppy growing areas and had exclusive access to remote provinces where our journalists have seen that farmers have either not grown opium poppy complying with the Taliban’s ban, or they’ve had their poppy crops destroyed if they defied the order.
