One person has died, with several injured, after severe turbulence on a London to Singapore flight. Authorities at Bangkok airport said the victim was a 73-year-old British man who “likely” died from a heart attack. Seven people are seriously injured – the wife of the British man who died has gone to hospital. Anyone not wearing a seat belt was “launched into the ceiling”, one passenger said. Singapore Airlines said the flight experienced “sudden extreme turbulence” over Myanmar. OpenAI has unveiled its latest version of ChatGPT – called GPT-4o. It is faster than earlier models of the chatbot and has been programmed to sound conversational in its responses to prompts. It will gradually be rolled out to all users of ChatGPT, including free-users. At least eight people have been stabbed in a ‘major incident’ in Southport, Merseyside. The UK’s North West Ambulance Service says it was called to a property, with reports of ‘multiple stabbings’, and paramedics have treated eight patients with stab injuries. The victims have been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby Hospital. Armed police have detained a man and seized a knife. Police have asked the public to avoid the area. Officials say there is no wider threat to the public. The US will deploy additional warships and fighter jets to the Middle East to help defend Israel from possible attacks by Iran and its proxies, the Pentagon said. Tensions remain high in the region over the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and Fuad Shukr, a key commander of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been arrested by Dutch police at a protest in The Hague. The 21-year-old joined hundreds of protesters in a march against fossil fuel subsidies on Saturday. The protest devolved into a standoff as dozens of police officers, some on horseback, attempted to stop protesters from blocking a main road. Local police put Ms Thunberg on a bus full of demonstrators and she was driven away from the scene.
