On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, local musical groups presented a moving concert at Hyde Park’s University Church (5655 S. University Ave.) titled “Plain Songs for America: A Pledge to Liberty and Justice.” Featuring music by African-American composers, the concert addressed issues such as civil rights and justice through the power of lamentations, spirituals, pop and gospel. YouTube, the platform for all things video, has made it much easier to share specific moments in videos on mobile devices. Previously, sharing a specific part of a video from your phone required manual manipulation of the video’s URL. Now, the YouTube mobile app automatically adds a timestamp when you share a video, taking you directly to the moment you want to share. It’s still not a perfect system; you can’t manually enter the exact timestamp you want; the app shares the point you’re currently watching.
