Badi, Allu Sirish’s upcoming film was scheduled to hit the theatres on July 26, but the release date has been postponed to August 2. The massive pre-release hype surrounding the latest Deadpool movie, which is scheduled to hit the screens on July 26, could be one of the reasons for the delay.
‘Buddy’ will be the next film in Sirish’s career after ‘ABCD’ (2019), the Telugu remake of Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘ABCD’ (2013), and ‘Urvasivo Rakshasivo’ (2022), an adaptation of the Tamil film ‘Pyaar Prema Kaadhal’ (2018). ‘Buddy’, while borrowing some key elements from Aarya-starrer ‘Teddy’ (2021), retells the story in an entirely different way.
Reflecting on his evolving relationship with remakes as an actor, Sirish said, “Audiences are not interested in remakes anymore. Films are becoming more familiar with each passing day. Buddy is not a remake. The story has been changed keeping in mind the tastes of the Telugu audience. It is also completely different from the Hollywood film Ted, which deals with an unlikely relationship between a grown man and an anthropomorphic teddy bear. There are many double meaning jokes in that film which we don’t have (laughs).”
Veteran comedian Ali is a character we rarely see in promotional interviews, but he jokingly says Buddy was filmed in his native Thailand. Speaking about working with Sam Anton, Ali says, “He’s a very methodical director. Everything was planned in advance and there was no time wasted. If he asks you to work for two hours on a particular day, you only have to work for two hours – nothing less, nothing more.”
Sirish also praised Sam Anton’s planning and time management, saying, “He may be unassuming, but extensive and meticulous preparation had been done even before we stepped on the set. This is in contrast to the Telugu film industry, where many teams come in without much preparation and expect things to work out on the spot.”
Baddi is Gayatri Bharadwaj’s second Telugu film after Tiger Nageswara Rao, where she co-starred with Ravi Teja. The actress plays an air traffic controller in the film. Comparing her previous roles, Gayatri said, “In Tiger Nageswara Rao, I played a country beauty. I don’t think anyone recognised it as it was so far from my real life personality. In Baddi, that is definitely not the case. I am playing a modern girl.” Gayatri’s father is a pilot and she also spoke about how his genuine views on the aviation industry helped her in the film.
For Sam Anton and Sirish, Buddy was a project that was destined to happen. “We’ve been wanting to work together for almost nine years now and I’m happy that it’s finally happened,” says Sam. Echoing Sam’s warm sentiments, Sirish says, “I would love to work with Sam again and with this team of Sam, Ali Garu and Gayatri again.”
