Athletic FC Podcast has won Sports Podcast of the Year at the British Podcast Awards for the first time.
The show, hosted by Ayo Akinwolere and Adam Leventhal, received the trophy at London’s Outernet on Thursday night, despite fierce opposition from industry heavyweights.
This podcast is dedicated to cutting through the noise by leveraging The Athletic’s stacked football newsroom expertise to give viewers the behind-the-scenes stories of the game’s biggest developments.
“In a very crowded market, this British Podcast Award recognizes the tireless efforts made by the team at The Athletic to bring credibility and authority to podcasts,” says Ayo.
“It’s rare to see someone like me headlining a football show of this scale for such a well-known brand. I’d like to thank The Athletic for giving me the opportunity to talk about the sport I love so deeply. Thank you very much.
“This is a huge award for us and we’re really excited to see where we can put on a show, especially as we’re already looking ahead to the World Cup in America in two years.”

While we would like to thank our indefatigable production team who work tirelessly behind the scenes, we must also thank our loyal listeners. Without them, the podcast wouldn’t exist.
