Redlands United Church of Christ will host its 45th anniversary show, “Art for Heaven’s Sake.” The art festival will be held from October 18th to 20th. Held on the beautiful grounds and gardens of Redlands United Church of Christ at 168 Bellevue Avenue, this Inland Empire’s premier art show features 70 artists representing a variety of media, including acrylics, watercolors, oils, photography, and stained glass. More artists will be performing. , jewelry, pottery and metal sculpture. Additionally, the show will feature a mosaic boutique featuring amazing crafts. Art and music will be highlighted throughout the weekend.
The featured artist of this year’s show is Carolyn Machado. Carolyn creates mixed media and mosaic assemblages. She feels that her life as an artist has allowed her to be creative in a variety of mediums. She creates pieces using paper, recycled materials, broken pottery and beads. She puts them together in an order that is not only visually pleasing, but also tells a story and gives the viewer a moment of pause and reflection.
Redlands United Church of Christ is hosting “Art for Heaven’s Sake” to support the arts and community. Initially, the show was intended as a fundraiser to showcase local talent. The first event was held in 1979 in a private home. The show featured five local artists. This year’s show will feature over 70 artists. Although many of the selected artists are local, this year’s show will also include artists from all over Southern California and beyond.
On Friday evening, October 18th, the show and sale will begin with a gala “Meet the Artist” reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and talk with artists, purchase art in a festive atmosphere, and listen to live music. music.
Friday night music begins with the a cappella group “Rhymes with Orange” from 6-7:30 p.m.
The group includes Dan and Heather Abushanab, Jennifer Brainard, Loring Fisk Phillips, Sue Shirer, and Peter Tupou, and features a wide range of styles including jazz, folk, gospel, and more.
Friday night music offerings will continue at New Vintage from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The group features Zoe Peterson and Connie Rohner on vocals, Kevin Bellefeuille on drums, Woody Andrews on bass, and Sofia Ohanian on keyboards. Entertain your guests with a dynamic show featuring a wide repertoire of classical variety music, rock, country and easy listening jazz.
The show continues on Saturday and Sunday with a more relaxed atmosphere. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can take a break or grab lunch at the food trucks located right outside the show. On Saturday, the Big Easy Sandwich Truck will be serving food. Big Easy Sandwich offers a delicious menu of sandwiches, burgers, and more. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, customers can also enjoy gelato from Happy Camper Creamery.
Saturday morning music begins at 10 a.m. with the Festivo Flute Ensemble. This group of flutists offers a wide range of music, including Celtic, jazz and oldies.
The 9th Garden Jazz Festival will be held on Saturday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The festival, sponsored by an anonymous donor and Maupin Financial Advisors, will be headlined by Los Angeles jazz musician Wendy Ryan & Friends.
On Saturday evening from 4 to 5 p.m., the church’s pastor, Joe Zaro, will be playing lively acoustic music.
Ana González de Jorgenson rounds out the musical offering Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
González de Jorgenson was born into a musical family in Mexico. She grew up listening primarily to classical music, old boleros, traditional romantic ballads and ranchero ballads. These ballads will be featured during the performance.
Sunday’s show opens at 11:30 a.m., following a special church service dedicated to the arts from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pep’s original Flautas y Mas food truck will be at the show, serving food starting at 11:30 a.m. Enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine including tacos, burritos, and original flautas with our secret sauce.
Sunday’s music will be provided by local folk musician Ellie Joy Schwartz, who will perform a variety of folk, blues and jazz songs from noon to 2 p.m., followed by Ellie from 2 to 4 p.m. “Felonious Plunk” is played. Pete Loring on guitar, banjo and vocals and Kevin Chaffee on banjo and dobro will perform big band songs, classic jazz and bluegrass favorites. The show opens with a performance by the a cappella group “Rhymes with Orange,” and the show closes.
Guests who attend the Friday night reception often return over the weekend to view the artwork again or purchase their favorite artwork.
