The open seats are in Districts 3 and 4. The seats are currently held by Lisa DeForest (District 3) and Lori Stone (District 4). As of midday Wednesday, DeForest had filed paperwork to run again (see the “List of Potential Candidates” here).
The filing period for Murrieta City Council seats opened on Monday, July 15 and closes at 5pm on Friday, August 9. If incumbents are not running for re-election and do not file paperwork by the August 9 deadline, the deadline will be extended to Wednesday, August 14 at 5pm.
To be eligible on the ballot, candidates must live in and be registered to vote in an eligible district in Murrieta. Find your district here. There is no cost to run for City Council, but candidates can pay a $600 deposit to submit a candidate statement for a voter information pamphlet. Additional printing costs may apply, according to the city.
To obtain nomination papers, visit the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours. Appointments are strongly encouraged, according to the city.
