Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s chemistry on the set of their new movie was so electric that they didn’t even hear a cut signal during the filming of their steamy love scene.
During an appearance Friday at the 92nd Street Y to promote We Live in Time, Garfield talked about the time he and Pugh filmed what he described as a “very intimate and passionate sex scene.” They vividly recalled the incident, but neither of them could hear the director’s screams during that time. Cut,” leading to an awkward moment.
According to footage of the event posted on social media, Garfield told the audience that the incident happened during the first take of a love scene. The shoot was shot on a “closed set,” with only Pugh, himself, a cameraman, and a boom operator present. .
“The scene became passionate because we choreographed it,” Garfield said. “And we get so wrapped up in it, so to speak, that we end up going a little further than we should, just because we’ve never heard the word ‘cut.’
Garfield said director John Crowley was in a separate room next to the shooting location.
As time went on, “I feel like we were telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a long take,'” the actor recalled.
Garfield said the pair looked at the crew in an attempt to be polite, and only realized their mistake when they saw both men facing the wall.
Garfield admitted that the scene was a little too long, but that he and Pugh both felt “comfortable” enough with the shooting environment that they thought, “Let’s just go ahead and just keep going.”
According to the official synopsis, “We Live in Time” stars Garfield and Pugh, who are “brought together by an unexpected and life-changing encounter” in the film.
The film will be released in US theaters on October 11th.
