We all knew this year’s college football was going to be something really special with conference realignment and a 12-team playoff. Throughout the four weeks, there were a few upsets, like Notre Dame losing at home to Northern Illinois, but nothing else really came as a surprise. But things are starting to heat up when conference play begins this weekend.
First off, the Georgia Bulldogs will be traveling to Tuscaloosa this weekend to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in one of the SEC’s biggest games of the year, a game that will have a huge impact on the fate of the playoffs as well as the Heisman Trophy race with QBs Carson Beck and Jalen Milroe facing off against each other. Having seen two very different teams win against USF and Wisconsin, we’re sure to find out a lot more about Alabama after this weekend’s games.
USA TODAY Sports re-ranked FBS programs from No. 1 to No. 134 over a four-week period, with Alabama ranked No. 5 on the list. Alabama was No. 4 a week ago, but Tennessee overtook Alabama after an impressive road win against Oklahoma. Auburn is third-lowest among SEC members at No. 81, behind Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
