(MENAFN – Khaleej Times) Indians living in the UAE will now have the option of cheap flights to their home country as IndiGo Airlines will begin operating to three more cities next month.
The low-cost airline plans to launch direct flights between Abu Dhabi and the Indian cities of Mangalore, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli from August.
Flights from Abu Dhabi to Mangalore will operate daily from August 9, while flights from Tiruchirappalli to Abu Dhabi will operate four times a week from August 11, 2024. Direct flights between Coimbatore and the UAE capital will operate three times a week from August 10.

The airline is slashing one-way airfares from Abu Dhabi to Mangalore and Coimbatore to AED 353 and AED 330 respectively for the coming months. For UAE travellers, return airfares could be as low as AED 843.
The UAE-India air route is one of the busiest between the two countries, thanks to the 3.7 million Indian nationals living and working in the UAE, who make up the largest number of foreign workers in the country’s expatriate community.
“The demand for air travel has been soaring, with airfares between the two countries more than doubling during peak seasons such as summer vacations and the New Year holidays. Travel industry executives have urged the government to increase seat capacity to cater to the rising demand. Many Indians also visit Dubai for tourism throughout the year.”
According to aviation consultancy OAG, air capacity between India and the UAE will reach 2.192 million seats in July 2024, making it the ninth-busiest route by capacity.
According to Abu Dhabi Airports’ data for the first quarter of 2024, Mumbai, Kochi and Delhi were the second, third and fourth busiest destinations with 240,681, 206,139 and 203,395 passengers respectively.
“With the addition of these flights, IndiGo now operates 89 direct flights per week to Abu Dhabi from 13 Indian cities,” IndiGo’s international sales head Vinay Malhotra said.
He added that the company will offer customers an “affordable” travel experience.
IndiGo had earlier announced that it would operate six direct flights per week between Bengaluru and Abu Dhabi from August 1. In January, the budget airline had announced that it would waive fuel charges on all its domestic and international flights.
