West Ham remain interested in the Championship star but may need to act quickly if they want to sign him.
With the transfer window approaching its final day, most West Ham fans will be happy with what’s been achieved so far. As well as signing experienced players, they have also acquired some incredible talent, the most promising of which being Crisencio Summerville.
The PFA Championship Player of the Year scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in the second tier last season – an astounding number – and while his transfer fee was undisclosed, it was reported to be very cheap for a player of his quality and therefore good value for money.
However, the Hammers are not yet done signing a talented young Championship forward, with The Sun reporting that they remain interested in signing Sunderland’s Jack Clarke.
The former Tottenham man has had a few impressive seasons in the Championship and has attracted interest from several clubs outside the Hammers, including Southampton.
So far the Irons have not been willing to match his transfer fee but with contract negotiations yet to be resolved the Black Cats may try to sign him before the deadline.
At the same time, there is a good chance he will extend his stay in the North East, so the club will need to act fast if they are serious about signing him.
The Hammers would probably have to offload a player beforehand to land Clarke. That said, there’s a serious question as to whether they really need another wide player and the answer is probably no. There’s no doubt that Clarke is an incredible talent, but it wouldn’t make sense for the Irons to sign him right now.
