The United Arab Emirates has achieved a significant milestone by conducting the first robotic kidney transplant using a single robot to perform simultaneous donor and recipient transplants.
The groundbreaking procedure was performed by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of the M42 Group, in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic USA.
The operation involved an organ donor and recipient, both of Emirati nationality, who were treated in separate operating rooms using the same robotic system that mimics the surgeon’s movements with high precision.

Minimally invasive approaches offer advantages such as reduced trauma, less blood loss, and quicker recovery.
Dr. Rashid Obaid Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, highlighted the achievement as testament to Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global healthcare hub.
Dr George Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, stressed the importance of collaboration in medical advancements.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s first multi-organ transplant center, is also exploring the use of robotic technology for liver transplants. The hospital has performed seven successful robot-assisted donor surgeries to date, aiming to minimize incision size and improve patient outcomes.
