Home Sports ICC shifts Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Bangladesh to UAE, BCB remains host
Dubai and Sharjah have been selected as the two venues for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held from October 3-20.
The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held from October 3rd to 20th.
NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced that the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) instead of Bangladesh. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will continue to be the organiser of the flagship event. The tournament will be played at two venues in the UAE – Dubai and Sharjah – from October 3 to 20.
“We are disappointed that we cannot host the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, and we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has done a great job of putting together a memorable event,” ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement. “We thank the BCB team for taking all steps to make it possible for the event to be held in Bangladesh, but travel advice from the governments of the participating teams made it impossible to achieve. They will, however, retain the hosting rights, and we look forward to hosting an ICC global event in Bangladesh in the near future.”
“I would also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for undertaking the hosting of the event on behalf of the BCB, and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous support. We look forward to them hosting a global ICC event in 2026.”
