Perhaps never before has a sorority recruitment video caused such a stir on the Internet.
A video from the University of Alabama’s Alpha Phi sorority chapter received significant backlash and was viewed more than 700,000 times on YouTube before being removed from the site.
The sea of bleached blonde hair seen in the video has drawn criticism. Photo: Screenshot
The video shows 72 women frolicking on a football field, jumping in a lake and spraying glitter.
One AL.com op-ed called the video “worse for women than Donald Trump” and criticized the video’s lack of diversity, calling it “simplistic and objectifying.”

Meanwhile, supporters of the video argue that other recruitment videos by sorority chapters at the University of Arizona and the University of Miami have chosen to highlight a similar aesthetic.
The sorority chapter did not respond to ABC News US’s request for comment.
Following the incident, the group has largely ceased to have an online presence. Photo: Screenshot
In a statement, the University of Alabama said the video “does not reflect The University of Alabama’s expectations for its student body to be responsible digital citizens.”
