The six-tonne Altar Stone at the heart of Stonehenge came from the far north of Scotland rather than south-west Wales as previously thought, new analysis has found.
It means that the stone was brought about 700km (434 miles), from Scotland, to the ancient monument, near Salisbury in south-west England.
The discovery shows the construction of Stonehenge was a far greater collaborative effort than scientists realised.
It also suggests that Neolithic Britain was a far more connected and advanced society than earlier evidence indicated.

Must have been some courier bill!
BBC is trash, so who knows?
Ufo's levitated them into place same as the Pyramids everyone knows that.
A one year old remembers being brought to Stonehenge. Errr no.
i notice you don't mention when stonehenge was allegedly MOVED, which is the explanation given for all those pictures of it being built. That is supposedly not the original location. I hear those stones are rebar inside, what a clown show.
Maybe they built it as some form of early graveyard, and each stone was brought down as some form of remembrance / symbol for the person who died and they buried the person around the area.
So they are changing their mind again? Most likely for some woke reason too
Aliens
I don’t remember anything from when I was one year old!
Probably Eddie Stobart's haulage company 😂😂
How surprising modern archaeology had it wrong once again. Then again they always so right and so certain until they arent
"than scientists believe" – what does it matter what 'scientists' believe ? I think they have been pretty much found out by now for the frauds that they are.
It was ants.
Built in 1890s shooo
“Shocked”
I remember the first time we dragged and placed the first stone. Good times.
BBC reporting interesting news interspersed with absolute nonsense once again.
I went there once. It was very Henge-y. Loved it.
“Scientists discover historic site off of highway exit is more boring than previously understood.”

Fakehenge made from cement in 1950s
I used to care about WHY. Now I ask myself, why? I don’t really have an answer. I don’t think I really care anymore. In this case, a bunch of misfortunate people were either misled or forced to move nearly-immovable objects hundreds of miles. There’s a good chance some died in the process. I hope they got something out of it. We will never know.
what about the tiny stones? and the rocks around it? what about the smooth stone, the big stones, the little stones? The Rolling Stones? The heavy stones? and the light stones huh? who brought those? don't forget the mega stones, super stones, really stoney stones? As well as The Flinstones? can't forget about those now. They're prehistoric! The milestones? Headstones? limestones? gemstones? two-tone stones? Yellowstone? Stones for getting stoned? I want answers NOW. Leave no stone unturned!!! (No pun intended) But first, time to get stoned……
A henge in Aberdeenshire (Moray) has stones like these, and has an enormous altar stone.
Ok, I've got to put this here…NO ONE REMEMBERS ANYTHING FROM BEFORE THEIR BRAIN WAS DEVELOPED ENOUGH TO FORM MEMORIES. A one year old baby is too young to have memories like that. They grow to recognize their parents and things that are vital to their survival. They are raw little creatures with limited ability to adapt. Many kids older than one year forget people they don't see often. I don't know why this fiction that people have memories from before it's possible is so prevalent, but it really has a hold on folks. That said, this story is amazing and I apologize to the people who will read this and be offended. I do not think you are stupid, or foolish.
It was.carried down by a UFO by our alien overlords
So Britain has an ancient Indigenous culture…….shouldn't They be opposed to Mass Colonization Invasions.
One year old and he remembers it?….BS
Did aboriginals build it?
Aliens did it
What a rock star!
Remember being there as a 1yr old? No he did not.
at least they dont claim it was built by africans who immigrated to anglo-saxon england.
The Africans built it.
''Remembered visiting the site at 1 year old''
That's a load of bollocks.

The BBC only employs DEIs and sex perverts.
The Welsh stones come from Preseli Hills 140 miles from Stonehenge. The English stones come from Marlborough west woods 25 miles from Stonehenge and now the alter stone from ne Scotland 430 miles away. Even though these places had different names than today the people from these areas travelled to Stonehenge proven by Isotope analysis of the animal remains at Stonehenge before the new findings. Avebury stone circle the circle most the world forgets about is made from the same English stones that came from the same quarry as Stonehenge "3.7miles away from Avebury" is more than likely an older construction than Stonehenge. The heaviest stone at Stonehenge is 30 tons and the heaviest stone at Avebury is about 100 tons.
Didnt know exactly from where but still not shocked. In fact with what we know today this is expected
it goes with dna too. I am still called irish…because my name history is true at 1600 years. There is 4000 missing. LOL. Science is doing wonders, rocks, dna, trees, whatever the subject. To me, the isles is one big group. My Y dna can't esacpe it. neither can my mt dna. the rest is modern borders.
Rock
The whole thing was built by dinosaurs. That’s the truth that science won’t ever tell you, but Monty Python will.
Huh, people working together to build something great. What a crazy idea that is in this day and age, huh?
I mean the distance is a interesting thing but is kinda hard to say “who” built it, as is just so long ago..
5000 years ago there wasn't Wales, Scotland, or England …there was just the people on the land.
BBC is a joke when will it be banned from spreading hate and lies?
in all likelihood the ruler of the area at the time had conquered wales and brought a stone to signify his rule.
Aliens made this not human.
Ah yes. A large earthwork that required a lot of people in a permanent location to accomplish. That implies agriculture or a network of gatherers to accomplish.
Not sure why Stonehenge is so great.
Ancient Mayan, Inca, Machu Picchu Temples and structures are far, far more massive and sophisticated.
