Prince William doesn’t want his estranged and “incredibly disloyal” brother to attend his coronation when he becomes king, sources have revealed.
A friend of Prince Charles told The Times that Prince William wants his own ceremony to “have a different look and feel”, reflecting on King Charles’ coronation last year.
Sources revealed that Prince William’s attempts to shake things up also included not inviting his brother, Prince Harry, to the event.
“They are estranged and it’s very sad,” the friend said, revealing that Prince William and Prince Harry have not spoken to each other for almost two years.
A friend of Prince Charles also told The Times that senior royal officials fear his conversations with Prince Harry will be made public to the world.
“The problem for the King and other members of the royal family is that they are scared that if they speak to Harry it will end up in Spare Volume Two. How do they regain trust? I don’t think Harry will ever be able to do that,” the friend said.
But while Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship continues to deteriorate, sources say that Prince Henry and Prince Charles’ relationship isn’t over just yet.
“But judging by his conversations with the King, I can’t say their relationship is beyond repair in any way. The King’s ability to forgive his son remains undiminished. There are others in the Royal Family who are more opposed to Harry. That’s the problem.”
Prince Harry’s friends are also unhappy with his decision to publicly criticise his family.
“I can’t believe he’s sunk to that level. This is huge dishonesty. Oprah, Netflix and a book? Three times and you’re out,” the friend said.
Prince Harry has had a tumultuous relationship with his brother for several years, and shocking reports of “royal rifts” emerged in 2018 as the Duke of Sussex was preparing to marry American actress Meghan Markle.
The argument only escalated, with Harry and Meghan stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and giving a highly controversial Oprah interview in 2021, in which the prince revealed that he and his brother were “taking some distance” to “heal.”
And, perhaps the clincher, Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” is due to be published in 2023, which details a physical fight he had with Prince William after they argued over Meghan.
Publishing industry insiders recently speculated that Prince Harry may have been “pushed” into some of the more controversial content in his memoir.
Spare hit bookstores in January 2023 and became the best-selling non-fiction book of all time as readers fell in love with the story of Harry’s epic triumph over his estranged family.
Speaking with Richard Osman on the podcast “The Rest Is Entertainment,” the writer explained how ghostwriters will “coerce” their subjects into “personal things,” giving the example of Spare ghostwriter JR Moehringer.
“It’s clear what happened with the best ghostwriters, and Mr. Moehringer, who was interviewed after ‘Spar,’ he said he had been pushing Prince Harry to tell him more and more about certain things,” she revealed on the podcast.
